when you're expecting, you get TONS of free promotional crap. i think you get extra in the military, since you must attend 14 briefings on insurance and not shaking your baby and such. one little tidbit i got in a goodie bag was a product called "Healthy Mom" (Nutrition for pregnant and nursing moms) by Ensure. below i would like to share the ingredient list of this powerhouse of nutritional goodness:
Ingredients:
(Fudge Graham): Crisp rice (rice flour, rice bran, sugar, malt extract, calcium carbonate), cocoa soy nuggets (soy protein isolate, rice starch, natural and artificial flavor), honey graham meal (enriched wheat flour [wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], high fructose corn syrup, graham flour, vegetable shortening [partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oils], sodium bicarbonate, salt, honey), corn syrup, marshmallow creme (corn syrup, sugar, water, egg whites, natural and artificial flavor, cream of tartar, xanthan gum, blue #1), sucrose, corn syrup solids, chocolate chips (sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, artificial flavor, salt, vanilla), fructose, fructooligosaccharides, water, canola oil, glycerine, high fructose corn syrup, natural and artificial flavors, xanthan gum, salt, soy lecithin.

14 rubber neckers:
I can't believe you just typed that all out! All that crap makes me nervous about what we're putting in our bodies.
I'm sure you ate it right after you were finished blogging. Yum.
;-)
ha. i ate it WHILE i blogged. and rather than type it out, i looked it up and copied it. i'm not that committed.
smart woman. you pretty much never have to type out anything ever again...it's on here somewhere.
Hmmm, That would pack a sugar whallop! Looks like 'Pregnancy Onset Diabetes' in a shiny foil wrapper! LOL
mmmmmmmmm, xanthan gum and soy lecithin, my favorites.
ayn- lazy or smart?
trailady- oh please don't remind me of the flat over-sweet sprite. i enjoyed labor more than the glucose test.
birdy- you're in luck. i think those are in everything.
When I was in high school I volunteered at a retirement home. I'd go once a week and spend time with the patients, most of whom never had any visitors. This one adorable, older gentleman was always trying to get me to drink his Ensure. I fell for it once, I hope the bar tasted better than the drink.
I can't believe you ate it! That's more surprising then the ingredients!!
pants- i'm of the opinion that ensure is an enormous scam. i think the gentleman was on to them too.
pug- i know. it sat on the shelf for weeks. of course its probably more suprising that i ate an enormous cheeseburger (grass fed organic beef of course) for dinner.
pa- when i was pregnant with violet i had a nasty sweet tooth. it lasted until i got pregnant again. now it's gone. weird.
cbt- everyone needs their daily alottment of blue #1. sounds like a jazz song.
GROSS! I don't think I would eat that, but then again, you never know. I do like the idea of getting freebies, although sitting through that many military briefings would make my mind numb.

I love artifical flavors and even natural flavors. Yum! Chemicals that taste like real foods! I think we discussed "Fast Food Nation" awhile back. Good book.
elsa- between that and pregnancy, i'm nearly braindead.
eric- i believe we did. that reminds me of the everlasting gobstopper. wonder what that was made of...
