what are mommies for?

my dear sweet conor's bike was stolen. he was angry at himself for leaving it on the back porch, and felt like an idiot. in that situation i would call my mommy, and she would say how sorry she was. conor called his mommy. she gave him a nice hearty i told you so. conor's bike was stolen when he was 12. TWELVE for god's sake. his mom told him she thought he had learned his lesson. conor looked so dejected when he got off the phone. i stroked his head and told him i was sorry. but i was mostly sorry that his mom wasn't very comforting. poor birdy.

Your Hidden Talent
You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system.
And while this may not seem big, it can be.
It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes.
You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices.

well i have to say, it's pretty darn accurate

save me!

last night i heard a noise. eep! when i was quietly slipping into bed, so as not to wake violet, i heard it. then i heard it again. it was a scratchy loud noise. i ran back out and got nathan. we went in and looked in the closet. nothing there. i took conor's camelback off the closet door, as i thought that may have been what the noise was. i went back to bed. i heard it again. i was getting freaked out. nathan put on his shoes and some gloves, in case he had to stomp something. i scooped violet up and took her to the other room. nathan went in for the kill. he crept in and saved me from the terrifying...paper. the fan was blowing a piece of paper and it was hitting a lamp. i feel like such a chick. the sad thing is, conor was working nights and if nathan hadn't been here, i guess i would have slept on the loveseat with violet. or maybe the car.

to vegan or not to vegan

the flowerchild has been primarily vegan (besides breastmilk). she obviously isn't having cow's milk since she's only 9 1/2 months old, but she has had a little goat's milk yogurt. since she is superlatively wee, i've been trying to sneak extra calories in her diet. i put coconut oil in her dinner, and add cereal to veggies. that sort of thing. i decided to try to introduce egg yolk. some guidelines indicate 8 months for introduction, some 10. i figured she was right in the middle. the child wasn't through 5 bites before she got hives all over her torso. eek! i've never had a hive in my life. and conor, as he likes to remind me, had never had a hive until he met me. (me being a source of stress.) i obviously ceased to feed her egg, and they went away in under 20 minutes. i'm just wondering if this is indicative of an allergy to egg, or just that she wasn't metabolically prepared. i don't feel like trying again in a couple months to see though.
