hate is such a strong word

violet is not a good sleeper. never has been. we tried to subscribe to the "keep it noisy and they'll sleep through noise" philosophy. no such luck. since we don't want to do the cry it out thing, we're essentially stuck with her pace for learning to sleep. ok. i can live with that. unfortunately the couple above us weigh EASILY 700 pounds collectively. it sounds like hippos in love up there. i'm not trying to be mean, and if they didn't make so much noise when they walked, i would not care that they're so big. they knock something off in the shower EVERY time they take one. and what are we supposed to do? it's not like normal noisy neighbors. we can't ask them to turn down their fatness. i don't wan't to hurt anyone's feelings, but i'm losing my mind here. (conor...don't be mean)

Just a thought, but does your complex have a mandatory 'quiet time'? Usually those are set a bit later, but maybe you'll be lucky and be in a complex that has a fairly early set quiet time. Otherwise, perhaps you should go introduce yourself to the noisey neighbors, bring along UV and tell them the deal (I'm tired, babe's tired, we are attempting to set good sleeping patterns, help us out please!!). Or...you could have lots of fun retaliating and buy a BIG broom with which to bang against the ceiling!

the problem is, they're not being loud. it's just that loud when they walk. i can't very well ask them to tiptoe around their own apartment. it sounds like they're coming through the ceiling, but they aren't doing it on purpose.

I'm laughing right now (I hate that LOL crap, if you couldn't tell)!

Still laughing!

Ok, our upstairs neighbor walks around quite heavily on his hardwood floors and plays his music loud enough for us to ::feel:: it as well as hear it. But, our downstairs neighbor must hate US because Gillian is always banging her toys on the floor, and rolling her Weebles Bus on the floor, and crawling, and falling, at all hours.

We tried the "make noise and she'll sleep through it" thing. Sarah didn't really get it, though. She tiptoes around EVERYTHING! So, we always have a fan on in her room. Fans drown out almost ALL background noise. So far...so good.

Ohhhh, gotcha SV...I guess that means I'm with CBT on the fan idea. Beebabe has hit a screaming stage (followed by insane laughter) and I am so thankful we don't have CLOSE neighbors!

thanks for the suggestion. unfortunately i have a fan right next to her head to drown out the noise. it just doesn't drown out the ceiling creaking above her. i'm glad i could afford you a little snicker this morning. we really have it quite good otherwise..we live on the first floor corner. so no neighbors on one side, and the model home is on the other side. it's just the upstairs folk.

Oh that was funny, Sarah! I'm soooooo sorry you have to deal with that. Our upstairs guy has stopped playing the music really loud though because he asked Jacob if we could hear it once and Jacob gave a slight smirk and said, "yeah-uhhh". So he must have sensed that he was a bit loud.
But really, our poor guy downstairs!

It's hard to really not like the people upstairs, cause they are very nice. Even if they weigh more than a VW Bug

It's nice to hear that we're not the only ones that don't want to just let our baby cry it out. I keep Hayden in bed with me and nurse her throughout the night so that she stays asleep. she wakes up no more than three times, and she always goes back to sleep as soon as I feed her. It's the naps I have problems with since I don't lay down with her for every nap. I usually rock her to sleep, put her down and then about an hour later she wakes up. if I were to be sleeping next to her she would probably sleep for 3 hours! oh well, I don't really care, I am just sick of everyone around us telling her we need to make let her cry and get her out of our bed.

oh man, this is too much! i fully recall living in the apartments & hearing EVERYTHING. now, in a townhome, it's only "slightly" better. the neighbors have kids & we woke up one morning, VERY early, to the sound of an instrument; flute, clarinet? no clue. it was HORRIBLE. keep practicing kid, but not THAT early. also, we believe the dad probably has cut up bodies in their basement. often times we think he's sawing/drilling through our walls. what is he doing down there??? keep us posted on if a hippo comes through the ceiling one day...
