From feral to domesticated

I used to think I wanted an exciting life. Which is strange, because I've never really liked leaving the house. But the other day I found myself completing the following activities:
  1. baking bread
  2. general baby care
  3. making granola
  4. doing laundry
  5. cleaning the bathroom
  6. sewing a new diaper bag
  7. vacuuming (aaaahhh...)

by the end of the day as I curled up with an episode of six feet under, I felt as if I had accomplished something very important. I suppose the day would have been complete if I'd had socks to mend. I often think that I shouldn't have more babies anytime soon so I can "accomplish something." I'm not sure what that is. I'd like to go back to school, but its not feasible for conor and I both to go at the same time. The truth is, I'm doing what I like to do. I'd like to have a bigger house to do it in. but that would just be gravy. gravy? I DID make biscuits this morning...

MMMmmmmm biscuits. I will admit that our life is not particularly exciting right now, but as the wee one grows and as we become a little more established as a family, we'll have more opportunities for such. I'm glad you're beginning to enjoy yourself, though.

You rock! No, seriously...to get that much done in one day amazes me! Why is it that we feel the need to 'accomplish something' as set by society's standards? Why is being a mom, and a damn good one, not considered ENOUGH of an accomplishment by more people?

birdy- i feel like she's approaching an age (and nursing frequency) that allows us to do more things.

chiro- right on. thanks. you're definately more skilled at the homemaking than i though.

cbt- we had "second breakfast" today. hence the biscuits.

pa- that article makes me disturbed for the people who LIVED like that. the suicide rate must have been astronomical among housewives.

I get excited doing all of those things as well. I have a couple of single friends that are always amazed by my life and they always want to come over and learn how to cook and clean and do all this "house" stuff. pretty funny.

My father gave me that article not long after I got married!

My hubbie is in the midst of school (again) so it's not feasible for us right now either. As for doing something "more", I keep saying I'll do "it" too. When it comes down to it though, I find I'm right in the middle of it!
Though I don't seem to have the same reaction from vacuuming...
